'Say No To Singer' protest

On Monday, 26 July 2004, infamous ethicist Professor Peter Singer delivered a human rights lecture at Adelaide University.

The TMC-affiliated Adelaide University Democratic Club, supported by the Australian Family Association, organised a very successful protest that drew public attention to Professor Singer's disgusting views on a number of issues. A number of TMC members were present.

à Australian political commentary website Crikey had the following in its 'sealed section' (directly quoting the Democratic Club's media release...)

15. Peter Singer and human rights abuses in Adelaide

Eyebrows are being raised at the choice of Professor Peter Singer to deliver the annual Don Dunstan Foundation Oxfam Community Aid Abroad Human Rights Oration at the University of Adelaide on Monday night. Peter Singer and human rights? The same Peter Singer who has said, "killing a disabled infant...is not morally equivalent to killing a person. Very often it is not wrong at all"? The same Peter Singer who has talked about euthanising any "non-person" - including "defective" babies, sufferers of dementia, the comatose and the physically disabled?

The same, alas.

à The ABC reported the protest the same night

à ...and then put out a much more detailed report - nationally - the next morning

à The ABC's national AM radio programme also covered the event   (includes audio version by clicking 'Windows Media' format!)
